Accounting & Payroll Specialist (Part-Time)

Christensen Associates has a great opportunity for a part-time Accounting & Payroll Specialist to join our Madison, Wisconsin team. We are a microeconomic consulting firm that develops innovative solutions to our clients complex, real-world business problems.

As an Accounting & Payroll Specialist, you will:

  • Maintain payroll data and process biweekly payroll in the HRIS.
  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring financial transactions are recorded properly and balance.
  • Verify and record accounts payable invoices, print/mail checks timely, monitor expenses, and maintain records.
  • Process employee travel and expense reimbursements.
  • Record all accounts receivable payments received and deposit the checks.
  • Reconcile bank statements with internal records. Notify the Accounting Manager and CEO of any discrepancies.
  • Produce monthly financial statements (i.e., income statements and balance sheets).
  • Track and record depreciation. Communicate with the CPA firm as needed.
  • Track, record, and submit quarterly use tax to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
  • Gather the necessary information for 1099s and mail the forms at year-end.
  • Produce and/or generate various financial, payroll, and project manager reports.
  • Maintain accounting files.

To be successful in the Accounting & Payroll Specialist position, you will need the following qualifications:

  • Associate degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience that includes accounts payable/receivable duties, processing payroll, and maintaining a general ledger.
  • Basic knowledge of financial accounting and generally acceptable accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail shown in the thoroughness, quality, and accuracy of work produced.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment while handling multiple competing priorities. Shows a sense of urgency in completing work and is willing to pitch in to help others when needed.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and accounting/payroll software (e.g., Sage, BillQuick, iSolved). Willing to learn new technology as needed.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer. We are unable to sponsor (now or in the future) or take over sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., F1 student visa, STEM OPT extension, H-1B, etc.).
  • Candidates must be willing and able to work out of our Madison, Wisconsin office. This is not a remote position.
